Thomas J. “TJ” Moorehead, 73, of Norwich, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
Born on November 1, 1947, in Jersey City, NJ, TJ was the son of Richard and Helen (Bodnar) Moorehead. He lived most of his formative years in Clifton, NJ. After graduating from Regis High School in New York City, TJ went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from St Peter’s University and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame. Upon completing his PhD, he did post-doctoral work at Penn State University. In 1978, TJ was hired by Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals, where he worked in pharmaceutical research and development. After Norwich-Eaton was acquired by Procter & Gamble, he continued to work at the company and moved to its Cincinnati location in 1998 and retired from the company in 2006. In 2010, TJ and his wife returned to Norwich where they would live until his passing.
On May 10, 1986, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, in Norwich, TJ married his beloved wife, Angela Reed, who survives.
TJ was active in and around the Norwich community. He volunteered his time with the Friends of Rogers Environmental Center, having most recently served on its board of directors. He was formerly involved with the Chenango Arts Council, the Chenango United Way, and the Chenango County Historical Society. TJ was a communicant of St. Paul’s Church, and he worked as poll worker for the Chenango County Board of Elections. He also helped at the Chenango Canal Museum, in Bouckville. When his son was young, TJ volunteered coaching baseball. He was an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout leader in both Norwich and Cincinnati. TJ had fond memories of his early days in Norwich, when he wrote, directed, performed and painted scenery as a member of the Chenango Community Players.
In addition to his wife, Angela, TJ is survived by his son, Lawrence; siblings, Mary Ellen (Tom) Dinsmore, James (Carmen) Moorehead, and Dennis Joseph Moorehead. TJ was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Mary Bell.
A memorial Mass for TJ will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021, at St. Paul’s Church, where Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
