Thomas F. “Tom” Kelly II, 85, of Norwich, crossed over to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Chenango Memorial Hospital following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born on June 2, 1936, in Port Henry, NY, Tom was the son of Arthur and Grace (Stevenson) Kelly. As a child, Tom grew up in Mineville, NY where he graduated high school with the Class of 1954. Tom immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force and is a veteran of Korea. His Air Force career would take him to many places, including being stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, SC, where he met the love of his life, Eunice “Pat” Lynch. The two were married on April 6, 1958, in Sumter, SC. Tom and Pat then traveled together while he continued to serve in the Air Force. After a ten-year Air Force career, they settled briefly in Plattsburgh, NY before moving to Oneonta, NY for a short time. In 1967, Tom took a position at the Norwich Pharmacal Company working in the QA department. He progressed his way up through the company with various positions including in the Norwich Aspirin line and Manager of the typing pool until becoming Director of Administrative Services with Procter & Gamble, where he retired in 1994.
In retirement, Tom and Pat traveled back and forth to South Carolina for several years before making Norwich their permanent home once again. He was a great cook and baker, a gardener, liked playing his guitar and singing gospel hymns and patriotic songs. He also enjoyed leading hymnals for the church choir during Sunday services. Tom was a 28-year member of the Assembly of God Church, in Norwich, where he became a church elder. Additionally, Tom loved reading about history and taking long walks with Pat.
Tom is survived is his loving wife of 65 years, Pat Kelly, of Norwich; siblings, David Kelly, of Moriah, NY, and Grace (Kelly) Hyatt, of Port Henry, NY; children, Terry Brown (Mike), of Norwich, Thomas III (Beth) Kelly, of Norwich, Joseph Kelly (Beatrice), of Norwich, Shawn (Kelly) Kelly, of Oxford, and Shannon Kelly (Milo, his favorite pup and only dog he ever liked), of Norwich; grandchildren, April (Danny), Mat (Rachel), Stephanie, Travis, Amy, Christy, Kenny, Mary, Victoria, Morgan, Paidin, Hayden, Garrett, Matthew, Amber, Adam, Josh, Caleb, Ethan, Alex, Aria, and Aidan; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and his care provider, Steve Wright, of Norwich. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Author and Grace (Stevenson) Kelly, and five siblings, Art, Rich, Ann, Gary, and Don.
The Kelly family would like to thank the staff at Chenango Memorial Hospital for their great sympathy and the wonderful comfort care that they provided for Tom.
A funeral service for Thomas F. Kelly, II, will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 12:00 pm. Friends are invited to the City Church, 97 Silver Street, Norwich, from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will immediately follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich, NY. . Contributions in Tom’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
