Susan A. Menard

Susan A. Menard, 66, of Oxford, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 19, 2020 with her loving family by her side.

Born on July 2, 1954, in Norwich, Susan was the daughter of Miner Gilbert and Anna Jennie (Eggleston) Ashcraft. She grew up in both Sherburne and Norwich and graduated with the Norwich High School Class of 1972. After graduating, Susan attended a nursing program at Broome Community College. She worked as a nurse for several years. Later, Susan worked at WT Grant’s department store, then at the A&P grocery store. While working at A&P, she also worked as an interpreter for the deaf in the local schools. Eventually, Susan worked full-time for DCMO BOCES as an interpreter for the deaf, primarily in the Norwich and Oxford schools.

During her years as a nurse, Susan once cared for a patient who would later become her husband, Keith J. Menard, who survives. They were married at St. Paul’s Church, in Norwich, on August 7, 1976. Together they would enjoy 44 years of marriage.

In her spare time, Susan very much enjoyed camping, tending to her plants and gardens, collecting antiques, and attending auctions. She also loved her many pets and “grand puppies.” Susan was also the biggest fan of her children’s and her grandchildren’s sporting events. She also enjoyed acting as the treasurer for their booster organizations. What Susan enjoyed most of all was spending time with her beloved family.

In addition to her husband, Susan is survived by her children, Matthew, of Earlville, and his son, Benjiman; son, Michael, of Norwich, and his children, Maggie, Andrew, and Dakota; daughter, Tara (her boyfriend, Corey Montgomery), and his children, Nolah and Collin; daughter, Melissa, of Norwich; and step-mother, Doris Ashcraft, of Norwich. She is also survived by sisters, Kris (James) Lamb, Terri (Steve) Clemens, Linda (Dave) Shaffer, and Michelle (Chris) Manwarren; and brothers, Howie Maine and Gary (Melissa) Ashcraft. Susan was predeceased by both her parents.

Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020. Callers are asked to enter through the side doors of the funeral home. To ensure the safety of all in attendance, please observe appropriate social distancing and sanitary practices, including facial coverings. A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
