Stephanie Charlotte Spicer, 66, of Penfield, NY, passed away on March 18, 2023 at home.
Stephanie was born in Norwich, the daughter of William and Charlotte (Walworth) Spicer in December of 1956. She was a 1975 graduate of Norwich High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Rochester. In addition to her degree, Stephanie also met Bill Martens at the University of Rochester and he would be her lifelong domestic partner.
Stephanie first put her education to use doing data management at Plymouth Rock Provision Company in Fairport, NY, and continued her interest in computer science and data management throughout her career. She went on to work for the Genesee Brewing Company and the Frontier Corporation in Rochester, retiring from Frontier in 2021. Later in her career, she specialized in human resources data management for corporate mergers. She enjoyed her many friends made at these companies.
Steph loved nothing more than taking the dogs to the park for a walk, or the occasional round of golf at nearby Shadow Lake Golf Course with Bill. Although they never got very good at the game, it was always a pleasant walk in the woods.
After herself benefiting from early cancer detection Stephanie became an ardent advocate for increased screening and prevention.
Stephanie is survived by Bill Martens; her sister, Nancy (Thomas) Sherwood, of Ohio; sister-in-law, Sandra Spicer, of Florida; and nephews, Kevin (Hannah) Newman, of Florida, Thomas (Beth) Sherwood, of Maryland, Patrick (Anya) Sherwood, of Sweden, and Jeff (Megan) Spicer, of Florida. Stephanie was also a loving Great Aunt to Jeffrey Spicer, Patrick and Henry Sherwood, Penelope and Charlotte Sherwood, and Liam Newman.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Charlotte Spicer, sister Heather Newman and brother William Jeffrey Spicer.
Memorial donations may be made to Lollipop Farm (99 Victor Rd, Fairport, NY 14450), URMC Medicine Home Care (2180 Empire Blvd, Webster, NY 14580), the Susan G. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester for their compassionate care.
