Stacy Gage

September 20, 1967 — March 15, 2019

Stacy I. Gage, of Norwich, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 15, 2019, with his loving family by his side. He was 51 years old.

Born on September 20, 1967, in Oneonta, Stacy was the son of Richard and Amy (Wagner) Gage, each of whom survives, and was the oldest of their four children. He was a graduate of New Berlin High School’s Class of 1985, and throughout his life stayed close with many of his fellow classmates. Stacy worked in various capacities during his lifetime, including work with both the Reese-Marshall and BlueOx energy companies, but was always lured back into car sales. For a time, Stacy co-owned and co-operated D&S Auto Sales, and worked in auto sales at a few different dealerships in the surrounding area. Prior to his illness, Stacy was the Business Manager at McCredy Motors, in Norwich. He was a car salesman by heart and nature, and served his many customers very well.

On July 25, 1998, in Norwich, Stacy married the love of his life, Maxine Granz, who survives. Together they would raise two children, Samantha and Alex, each of whom survives. Stacy was so proud of his wife and kids, and especially enjoyed attending his kids’ various sporting events.

Stacy also loved the game of golf, and he was an avid golfer. He was a regular presence at the Canasawacta Country Club, which happened to be just a short walk from his home. Stacy particularly enjoyed the 19th hole. He also owned a parcel of land elsewhere in Norwich that he used for his other favorite sport: hunting. Stacy very much enjoyed sharing his love of golf and hunting with his son, Alex, who would become quite talented in both.

Beginning in 2015, Stacy battled – but for three and one-half years overcame – brain cancer. Despite the effects of the cancer on Stacy’s mobility, he fought back and regained his independence. He was most proud of having regained his ability to drive his car and visit his extended family and many, many friends. He also enjoyed driving to and working out at the Norwich YMCA. The positive attitude, determination, and courage Stacy exhibited throughout his illness was an inspiration to so many of those who knew him. Throughout his life, Stacy was a devoted family man, a true friend to so many, a man of his word, fun-loving, and humorous – and all-around great guy. Stacy also had a love and compassion for animals, and adored his two dogs.

In addition to his wife, children, and parents, Stacy is survived by his sisters, Lisa Cole, of VA, Kelly Gage, of South New Berlin, and Shelly Kellum, of West Davenport, NY. He is also survived by his step-mother, Elaine Gage, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private memorial service for Stacy will be held at the United Church of Christ, First Congregational, in Norwich. A celebration of Stacy’s life will be held in late spring 2019, an announcement of which will be published beforehand.
