Sheryl D. Rowe

October 27, 1956 — January 22, 2024

Sheryl D. Rowe, 67, a lifelong Norwich resident died unexpectedly on Monday, January 22, 2024 at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.


Born on October 27, 1956, in Norwich, Sheryl is a daughter of the late Brian and Shirley (Watson) Smith. While in High School, Sheryl worked for the Evening Sun newspaper, a job she continued to pursue following from graduation from Norwich High School in 1974. Sheryl later took a position with Bytheway Publishing Service in Norwich, where she worked as a typesetter, until the business closed. Sheryl continued typesetting in her home until her death.


Sheryl was a huge force with the Norwich Elks Lodge, No. 1222 including being a current secretary, past treasurer, and former exalted ruler, the first female to hold this position in Norwich. She also assisted in typesetting for many publications of the Chenango County Historical Society. Sheryl was an avid bowler and a member of the South New Berlin Horseshoe Club, including being past president. Most of all, Sheryl loved camping with her camping “framily.”


Sheryl is survived by her husband, Robert Rowe, of Norwich; children, Brian Smith (Dodie Rippentrop), of Norwich, Erica Barrows, of Norwich, Bradley (Lisa) Rowe, of Pennsylvania, and Jeremy Rowe, of Norwich; grandchildren, Natalie (Wade) King, Courtney Gould, Jackson Smith, Addison Rowe, Addielise Rowe, Lila Rowe, Ava Rowe, and Chloe Rowe; one great-granddaughter, Harmony King; and siblings, Susan Pope, David Smith, and Douglas (Sheron) Smith.


Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.


Contributions in Sheryl’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
