Rose Ann Taranto, 97, of Norwich passed away peacefully at her residence on October 31, 2014 with family at her side. For the last seven years Rose Ann has been cared for by Carol, Melanie, Laura, Teresa, Crystal, and Wendy, our angels here on earth. The compassionate and loving care provided by them has been remarkable and the family is truly thankful.
Born on February 27, 1917, Rose Ann was the daughter of Vincenzo and Angelina (Taranto) Taranto. Rose Ann graduated from Norwich High School and then went on to attend the College of St. Rose and Columbia University in NYC where she earned her nursing degree. She was a nurse in the Norwich City Schools until her retirement.
Rose Ann enjoyed the many years that she took care of her “children” of the school district. In her free time you would most likely find her on the golf course. Golfing was a passion.
Rose Ann is survived by her sister, Emelia Petley, of Norwich. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Rose Ann was predeceased by her brothers, Angelo, Felix, Julian, and Emilio, and her sisters, Edith and Teresa (Marino).
Through her work with the families of Norwich she was well known in the community. She would often be remembered by her former students and she enjoyed this. Rose Ann was so fortunate to live in the caring community of Norwich. Over the years during her declining health while she was still able to be around town, there were many of you who would offer a helping hand to her. The family thanks you all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Rose Ann at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, where Father Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate.
