Ronald Hardy

Ronald F. “Smurf” Hardy, 70, of Preston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at his home with his friends and family by his side.

Born May 20, 1944 in Watertown, NY, Ron was the son of Edwin and Lina (Lacey) Hardy. He worked for several years as a welder for the O.W. Hubbell Company in Utica and for twenty-three years for the Raymond Corporation in Greene.

Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, kayaking and camping. One of his final wishes was to hunt in the James Bay area of Canada. His wish was fulfilled last year with a successful caribou hunt.

Ron is survived by his sisters, Carol (Doug) Loomis and Barbara (Philip) Boardman and brothers, Gerald Hardy, Brian Hardy and Bruce (Cinda) Hardy. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Mildred Hardy and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He also leaves his loving caregivers, Peggy and Doug Dungey. Ron was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, George, Edwin Jr., Carl, his twin brother Donald, and sisters, Linda Hardy and Alta Ruth Hardy.

A graveside service for Ron will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Warn Ten Broeck Cemetery in Oxford, NY. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in memory of Ron may be made to Chenango County Hospice, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
