Robert Figary

Robert (“Bob”) Figary, 87, of Norwich, went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 27, 2015, with family by his side at his home.

Born on March 27, 1928, in North Norwich, Robert was the son of Donald Figary. He graduated with the Norwich High School class of 1946, where he was an accomplished football player. Upon his graduation, Bob was employed in several construction settings, including the Craine Silo Company. In 1950, he began a career at GLA, and retired after a long tenure with Hercules, and as a manager.

On April 16, 1949, in Norwich, Robert married Phyllis Pforter, who predeceased him on August 5, 1992. He is survived by daughters Patsy Figary, of Norwich, Joni Figary and her companion, Paul E. Read, of North Norwich, and Wendi Benson and her husband, Miles, of Easton, PA; son Terry and his wife, Marian, of Oxford; grandchildren Gretchen Kenyon and her husband, Wesley, of NC, Joshua Figary and his wife, Kristina, of Oxford, and Kyle, Alec and Ashley Benson, all of Easton, PA; great-grandchildren Kayla and Jack Figary, and Sebastian and Kaleb Kenyon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Bob was predeceased by sisters Regina Tracy and Catherine Rounds.

Bob very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking long walks. He was also quite fond of making maple syrup with his son. Bob was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church, of Norwich.

A private graveside service will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in the spring. Rev. Brian Conover, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
