Richard L. “Rick” Evans, 70, a lifelong Norwich resident passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY, with his loving wife by his side.
Rick was born in Norwich in June of 1952, the son of Al and Thelma (Tremper) Evans. He graduated from Norwich High School in 1970 where he was a proud member of the football team. Rick was the fourth generation to operate Evans Homestead Farm.
Rick met Paula Tillapaugh at the Chenango County Fair where they both showed cows. They were married on July 22, 1972 at the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Norwich.
Rick served as a board member and vice-president of the Chenango County Agricultural Society, a member of the Chenango County Holstein Association, and was a director of the Rockdale Producers Co-op. Rick volunteered for many years at the Chenango County Fair, being honored with his wife, Paula, as Mr. & Mrs. Chenango County Fair in 2018. He also worked with the family at Evans Auction Service, a business his great-uncle Bill started in 1916.
Rick enjoyed spending time with family, camping, vacationing in the Florida Keys and Cape Cod and loved watching his grandchildren play sports.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Paula, of Norwich; children, Keith Evans and his wife Joanne, of Norwich; Melissa Halicy and her husband Matt, of Sterling, VA; grandchildren, Kara Evans and her fiancé Thomas Reilly, Emily Evans, Ryan Evans, and Mairin Halicy; brothers, Robert and spouse Barton Snedaker, William and spouse Linda, David and spouse Sue, and Scott and spouse Shelly, all of Norwich; mother-in-law, Marian and spouse Terry Figary, of Oxford; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents in 1999.
Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, on Friday, April 28th from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00p.m. Funeral services for Rick will be held at 4:00 p.m. also at Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will occur later in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Rick may be made to the Chenango County Agricultural Society, P. O. Box 622, Norwich, NY 13815, to promote agriculture throughout the county.
