Ramona M. “Mona” Oehme, 90, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2018, at Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin, NY.
She was born on June 25, 1928, in Woonsocket, RI, with the birth name of Marian Erna Ramona Seyffarth. Mona was the daughter of Richard and Clara (Dittmar) Seyffarth, each of whom were German immigrants. After graduating high school, she earned a professional certificate in the field of secretarial work. Mona worked for decades as a secretary in the headquarters office of the A&P grocery store chain. Prior to retiring, she worked as the executive secretary to A&P’s treasurer.
On May 28, 1949, in Passaic, NJ, Mona married her cherished husband, Werner M. Oehme, who died on March 18, 2014. They would raise their son in Clifton, NJ, where they resided for 34 years. Mona only retired after Werner retired. At that time, they decided to relocate to the South Carolina coastal town of Little River. They would spend the next 26 years in Little River enjoying the fruits of their pre-retirement labors. It was there that Mona would become an avid golfer. In 2011, Mona and her husband decided to live full-time in Norwich, NY, but continued owning their South Carolina home where the family would gather for vacations. Mona very much enjoyed the card game of Bridge, and was a member of a team of line dancers that would perform for residents at various nursing homes.
Mona is survived her son, Robert Oehme, and his wife, Linda, of Plymouth; grandchildren Jennifer Mallozzi, and her husband, Christopher, of Norwich, and Jessica Posner, and her husband, Justin, of Ellenville; great-granddaughter Melodie Posner; and sister Carol.
A memorial service for Mona will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the United Church of Christ, First Congregational, where the Rev. Joseph Connolly, pastor, will officiate. Burial of Mona, along with her husband, will take place at the South Plymouth Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the wonderful care Mona received and the friendships she made at the Chenango Valley Home during her several years of residence there, and for the care Mona received by the staff at Chase Memorial Home and Hospice of Chenango County.
