R. Crawford

R. Reed Crawford, 82, of Charlotte, North Carolina, went to meet his Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Born in Norwich on April 15, 1930, Reed was the son of Ralph and Hilda (Johnson) Crawford. He grew up in Norwich and graduated from Norwich High School in 1948. Reed then graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University in January of 1952. Following his education, he served as a supply sergeant with the U.S. Army Security Agencies 329 Communication Reconnaissance Company in the Kumwau Valley of Korea in 1953-54.

Reed was retired from Hoffman-LaRoche, Inc., a pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturer in Nutley, NJ, where he was employed as a Management Information Systems Specialist.

On June 30, 1956, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Reed was united in marriage with Catherine (“Kitty”) Powell Thompson, who survives. In addition to his wife, Kitty,who resides in Charlotte, Reed is survived by a daughter, Sharon Lynn (Thomas) Pokorny, and a grandson, Alexander T. Pokorny, all of Fort Myers, FL. He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Diane Crawford.

At Reed’s request, there will be no funeral services or calling hours. Burial will take place at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
