Philip W. Bedford, 69, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. Born on January 9, 1952, in Oneonta, NY, Philip was the son of Philip Bedford and Barbara (Dunshee) Thomas. He was a graduate of Norwich High School’s Class of 1971. Philip worked at two different times at Victory Markets, once as a teenager and again later in life. In between, Philip completed the Bulova clock repair school and also locksmith school, then owned and operated Bedford’s Locks & Security business up until the time of his death. He was also active with home restoration and painting. Philip loved to tinker in general, and completely transformed a local barn into his residence and the location of his business. Philip was also known around town for the old ambulances that he converted into his locksmith vehicles. He had a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh.
Philip is survived by his mother, Barbara Thomas; father, Philip Bedford; children, Barbara Bedford and David Bedford, each of Norwich; siblings, Linda (Ed) Spencer, of Oneonta, Joni Thomas, of Norwich. and Mary (Tom) Ruffino, of Boynton Beach, FL; niece, Amanda (Russ) Scimeca; nephew, Matthew (Jennifer) Armstrong; great-nieces, Malena Scimeca and Ellea Armstrong; and step-mother, Marjorie Bedford. He was predeceased by his step-father, Donald Thomas.
