Nora L. Bixby

Nora L. Bixby, 84, formerly of Greene, NY, died peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024, in the comfort of her daughter and son-in-law’s home.

Nora was born on November 27, 1939, in Corning, NY, she spent her childhood in Johnson City, NY, Elmira, NY, and Mt. Upton, NY. She was a graduate from Mt. Upton High School and lived in Chenango County during her adult life. Nora began working at the M.H. Fishman’s store in Norwich and later worked for the Norwich Shoe Company, Simmond-Precision, and eventually the Raymond Corporation as an assembler. She retired from Raymond at the young age of seventy-two.

Nora loved being social and dancing-especially to country music, had a love for speed and drag racing -particularly on back roads, and cherished her morning donuts and evening ice cream. An animal lover, Nora cared for many cats, dogs, and small parrots during her life. Family was very important to her and always enjoyed a reason to get together and socialize.

Nora is survived by her daughter, Victoria “Vicki” (Mark) Stiles, of Guilford, NY; son, Michael Smith (Tammy Hall), of Norwich; grandchildren, Nicole (Justin) Smith, Rachel Ackley, Cory (Kara) Ackley, Crystal (Christian) Ackley, Amanda Stiles, Christina Stiles, Chelsea Smith (Josh Whaley), Mike (Macey) Smith, and Ashley (Jacob) Moore; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Lola Byam, Nita Bauer, Ruth Pierce, Paul Bentley, John Bentley, Kenny Bentley, Victor Bentley, and Frank Bentley.

Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service to immediately follow. Burial will occur in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
