Nancy L. Franklin-Smith

May 16, 1938 — April 17, 2022

Nancy L. (Harrington) Franklin-Smith, 85, went to heaven on Sunday, April 17, 2022.

Nancy was born on May 16, 1938, in Norwich, to Harold and Blanch (Sharts) Harrington. She was a graduate of Norwich High School in 1954. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, and her brother, Richard A. Harrington, and her loving husband, Gerald D. Smith.

Nancy’s first job in her long life was a homemaker to her four surviving children, Dale (Pamela) Franklin, Donna (Martin) Morse, Deborah (Ronald) Myers, Douglas (Karen) Franklin, of Kernersville, NC. She was a Girl Scouts Brownie leader for both of her girls. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Doug (Theresa) Murray, Alisha (Toby) Franklin, Brandie (Eric) Warren, Ashley (Edwin) Shaw, Bryce Bauder, Michelle Franklin, Chrisopher Franklin, Max (Laurabelle) Morse, of Albany, NY, Kerstin (Kyle) Leigh, of Kernersville, NC, Keagan (Mia) Franklin; and 12 beloved great-grandchildren. She also has many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, and, finally, her beloved cat, Tommy.

There is a recipe that was handed down from generation to generation, and she made the best molasses cookies anybody would want. Nancy was the town clerk for Preston, NY, for 12 years and then went to work at W.T. Grant’s. After W.T. Grant’s, Nancy went to work for NBT Bank, and worked there for 22 years until her retirement.

After retiring, Nancy and her husband, Jerry, would be “snow birds” each winter and travel to Inverness, FL. Also, whether it was New York or Florida, the two would always be looking to find a good deal in antiques and depression glass. They loved to travel. Along with finding those treasures, Nancy has a hobby of collecting dolls. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays and had awesome Halloween parties for the grandkids. In her spare time, Nancy loved tending to her flower gardens.

Mom, you will be missed dearly, and we love you.

A graveside service for Nancy will be held in May at the J.D. Lewis Cemetery, in Preston. Contributions in Nancy’s memory may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, the Chenango SPCA, or the Preston Cemetery Association.
