Nancy Bowden

Nancy K. Bowden, 81, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 18, 2012 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Born September 11, 1931, in Washington, D.C., Nancy was the daughter of Kenneth J. and Nora (Wightman) McAuliffe. After graduating high school, Nancy attended college at Hofstra University. On May 16, 1953, in Long Island, Nancy married the love of her life, Kenneth D. Bowden, her loving husband of 59 years.

Nancy took particular pride in her work for several years in the Morristown, NY, district office of Congressman Benjamin Gillman. She was a very resourceful member of Rep. Gillman’s staff. Nancy was also an avid reader and loved to bargain shop. Most of all, Nancy was a devoted and loving wife and mother who raised four beautiful children.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her daughters Alice E. (Kenneth) Halstead, of Cuddebackville, NY, and Nora E. (David) Halstead, of Monticello, NY. She is also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, her brother, Jimmy (Paula) McAuliffe, and her sister, Janet (Seth) Clark. Nancy was predeceased by her sons Stephen W. and Michael K. Bowden. Nancy will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service for Nancy will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
