Miles Leonard Nichols, 43, of McDonough, passed away suddenly after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born on October 9, 1974 in Oneonta, NY, Miles was the son of Eugene and Muriel (Linger) Nichols. Miles grew up in New Berlin, where he attended school. Following his education, he worked as a telecommunications installer. Miles relocated to California but later returned and settled in McDonough. Miles loved life and all it had to offer. In his short amount of life, Miles made the most of it and was always up for an adventure. Known as the “wheelie-king” as a kid, he never slowed down in life, and always made time for family. He was a lifelong fisherman and hunter, he loved golf, and was an avid pool player. Miles also played on the Gus Macker “Mad Hatter” basketball team. Most importantly, he was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan. Miles was an active member of the Sherburne Rotary Club, the Chenango United Way, the McDonough American Legion, and the Pharsalia Fire Department. Miles greatly enjoyed the beach and loved vacationing there with his family. He was a dedicated husband and father, and coached his kids in their youth sport teams. Miles made being a father and husband a top priority in his life.
Miles and his wife, Lori Olsen, spent eighteen years together raising their family. In addition to his parents and wife, Miles is survived by son Timothy Nichols, son Benjamin Olsen-Russell, and daughter Mallory Olsen-Nichols; granddaughter Veada Sue Nichols, and her mother Ashley Jaquay; brother Eugene Jr. and his wife, Bethany Nichols; sister, Paula Nichols; father-in-law William Olsen; nieces and nephews Kayla Nichols, and her daughter, Ryleigh, Megan McAvoy, Mackenzie Nichols, Skylee Shaver, Alicia McGeehee, Amanda McGeehee, Lindsay McGeehee, Dylan Downs, Dalton Downs, Eric Olsen, Nicholas McConnell, and Kyle Linger. He is also survived by many cousins, including his cousin and work partner during his many out-of-town jobs, Clint Linger. Miles was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Heide Olsen, and nephew, Charlie Shaver.
