Mildred C. McFarland, 95, of Oxford, and formerly of Queens, NY died on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at the New York State Veterans' Home. She was the wife of late Army serviceman and New York City policeman, Charles McFarland.

Born on July 31, 1929, in New York City, NY, Mildred was a daughter of the late Rolando and Cecilia (Hammond) Wyatt. She was raised in New York City and attended school there. As an adult, Mildred was a child care giver and loved watching the many children she worked with over her career. In 2019, she relocated to the Norwich area to be closer to family. Since 2020, she has been a resident of the New York State Veterans’ Home.

Mildred’s true passion was singing, and writing music and poetry. She was often told she had a beautiful voice and didn’t hesitate to share that gift. She also enjoyed walking on the boardwalk of Rockaway Beach, watching gameshows, her collection of hats and shoes, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Richard Haynes, of El Paso, TX, Terry Haynes, of Westchester, NY, and Joi Shaw, of Hancock, NY; grandchildren, Philip Shaw, of Hancock, NY, Jesse Shaw, of Hancock, NY, Andrew (Brie) Shaw, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Joseph (Sarah) Shaw, of Hancock, NY, Joshua Shaw, of Drexel Hill, PA, Caleb Shaw, of Hancock, NY, Keren Shaw, of Hancock, NY, Elizabeth Shaw, of Hancock, NY, Jared Shaw, of Hancock, NY, Anna Shaw, of Hancock, NY, and Matthew Shaw, of Hancock, NY; great grandchildren, Lydia Shaw, Andrew Shaw, Jr., Ash Shaw, and Fay Shaw; son-in-law, Edgar Shaw; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, William Wyatt, Dolores (Wyatt) Callender, and Muriel (Wyatt) McMillan.

A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with John Antonowicz of the Wilson Funeral Home.
