Mary T. Politano

Mary T. Politano, 94, of Norwich, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 15, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Maria Rosaria (Longo) Politano. Mary is survived by her brother, Carmine Politano, of Norwich, NY; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Politano, of Wayne NJ; nephew, Joseph his wife, Cathy Politano; and nieces, Rita Colella and Maryann Angelella, her husband, Gerard; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Ida Politano, in 2019 and her brother, Louis Politano, in 2021.

Mary had a great passion for reading and learning from an early age to the present. The first in her family to graduate college, she went on to a successful career becoming the managing editor of a medical journal, Urology. Mary was awarded a fellowship and certification from the American Medical Writer’s Association, an award usually reserved for physicians. Mary loved to travel, and her favorite places were Italy, London, Scotland, and Ireland.

Mary volunteered with multiple associations and boards. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Mary was communicant of St. Bartholomew’s Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Church of St. Bartholomew, where the Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment will take place on April 22, 2022, at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, in Totowa, NJ. Contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the Church of St. Bartholomew Memorial Fund, 73 E. Main St., Norwich, NY 13815.
