Maria C. Guzzetta

Maria C. Guzzetta, 64, of Greene, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY.

Born on May 20, 1954, in Rockaway Beach, NY, Maria was the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Biodolillo) Colletti. After relocating to Upstate New York in the 1960s, Maria attend the Sherburne-Earlville schools and graduated from Wells College in 1976.

Maria married Lou Guzzetta in Norwich on May 17, 1980, after a brief courtship. They settled in Greene where they raised their children, Alexander (34) and Francesca (30).

Maria had been associated with the financial services industry for over 30 years, earning the Certified Financial Planning® designation during that time. In 2009, together with Louis, they opened Guzzetta Financial Associates in Greene, NY.

Maria had a quiet wisdom and was a great listener. Everyone who met her loved her. She was an amazing cook and was well known for her “killer” tomato sauce. She maintained a beautiful garden, loved to read, and was quite the whiz at trivia.

Maria is survived by her loving husband, Louis, and her children Alexander (Lindsey), of St. Petersburg, FL, and Francesca, of London, England. She is also survived by her mother, Frances Colletti, of Sherburne; siblings Adolph J. (Zoulikha) Colletti and Louisa (Chris) Hawkins; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Maria was predeceased by her father, Joseph.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ron Harris, all the great people at Broome Oncology who cared for Maria over the last two years, and all the caregivers at Wilson ICU, who compassionately saw to Maria’s needs at the end of her life.

A memorial service for Maria will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home, Norwich, NY, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019.
