Margaret Ann was born in Norwich on February 6, 1933, the daughter of Francis Joseph Brennan and Sarah Margaret Tansey Brennan. She grew up in Norwich and was a 1951 graduate of Norwich High School. She later planned her class reunions. In 1952, she gained employment with Eaton Laboratories, Division of Norwich Pharmacal Company, remaining there until the birth of her sons. Thereafter, continuing her clerical employment, she worked at Norwich Mills and later at Champion Products, from where she retired as a receptionist. She put both sons through college and her oldest son through law school.
A warm, kind, forgiving, and friendly person, who was devoted to Christ, family and friends, Margaret Ann enjoyed her home at 20 Academy Street; playing the organ, piano, bridge, and bingo; the Monday Evening Musical Club; the Lawrence Welk Show; all things Irish; Jeopardy, Yankee baseball; professional tennis, Syracuse football and basketball, and any sport or sports team that her sons followed. Margaret Ann was a devout Roman Catholic and daily communicant at St. Paul or St. Bartholomew. When she could no longer physically attend Mass, she would watch morning Masses on EWTN. She loved to walk to work or church, and run errands for friends, who could no longer do them.
Margaret Ann is survived by her oldest son, Honorable Thomas Patrick McCarthy of Leland, North Carolina, and his wife Trish Zemple and her daughters Allison and Rachel, and her youngest, loving son, Patrick Michael McCarthy of Fairfax, Virginia. Also surviving are thirteen special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews from the McCarthy, Brennan, and Brooker families.
Margaret Ann was predeceased by her husband, Robert Emmet McCarthy; her older sister, Mary Elizabeth Brennan Brooker; her younger brother, William Francis Brennan; her infant sister, Patricia Ann Brennan; her brother-in-law, Lawrence Brooker; her sister-in-law, Judy Brennan; and her nephew, Dr. Matthew Brennan.
