Leland Stilwell

Leland A. Stilwell, 96, of Wheeler Avenue, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Chenango Memorial Residential Health Care Facility with family by his side.

Born November 2, 1917, in Schenevus, NY, Leland was the son of William and Daisy (Bailey) Stilwell. After attending school in Treadwell, Leland worked in construction. Later, he worked as a welder for the Raymond Corporation in Greene for 28 years before retiring in 1982.

On November 1, 1953, Leland married his wife of 54 years, Josephine E. (Smith) Stilwell, who predeceased Leland on February 15, 2008. Surviving Leland are his daughter, Lisa Stilwell, of Norwich; sons, Reginald and his wife, Paula, of Parker, CO; Shawn and his wife, Diane, of Delta, PA; and Kevin of Vestal, NY. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Danielle Stilwell and Shane Stilwell, and by his sister, Iva Entwhistle. Leland was predeceased by his wife, Virginia (Knapp) Stilwell, son, Brian Stilwell, daughter, Ginger Stilwell, granddaughter, Nicole Stilwell, brothers, DeVere, Van Dorm and Wayne, sisters, Edith Hewitt and Vesta Sarrge, and daughter-in-law, Susan Stilwell.

A private graveside service for Leland will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family.
