Joyce A. Pollock

Joyce A. Pollock, 85, of Norwich, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 with her loving family by her side.

Born on January 9, 1937, she was the twin daughter of Claude and Anna (Bosworth) Westover, and was the last surviving child of their 15 children. On September 29, 1973, she married Harvey P. Pollock, who died on June 10, 1999. With their marriage, Joyce became a stepmother to Harvey’s eight children.

For many years, Joyce worked as a laborer at the Norwich Shoe Company. After she retired from the shoe company, she provided child care out of her home for the next 20 years. She absolutely loved the children she looked after. She liked to take videos of the kids and play them back to the children, which they very much enjoyed. She especially adored her great-grandnephew and great-grandniece whom she cared for, Eric and Savannah Eichler. Later in her life, they would take care of Joyce until her passing, along with their mother, Tracy, whom Joyce also cherished.

Joyce also very much enjoyed playing cards, especially “Pitch.” She collected wind chimes and was known for the many, many framed pictures on the walls of her home of all those she loved. She was also bound and determined to stay out of nursing care and, with the help of the Eichler family, was able to pass away in her own home.

In addition to her husband, Harvey, Joyce was predeceased by her stepchildren, Tim Pollock, Harvey Pollock Jr., and Richard Pollock. She is survived by her stepchildren, Kathi Parker, Michael Pollock, Barb Ross, Gaynel Waters, and Sheila Ditty; and her beloved Eichler family, Tracy (Robert) Eichler, Eric Eichler, and Savannah Eichler.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, where the Rev. Richard Howard will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at J.D. Lewis Cemetery, in Preston. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
