Josephine M. Casamento

Josephine M. Casamento, 84, a Norwich native, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Ghent Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, in Ghent, NY.

Born on August 13, 1935, Josephine was the daughter of Joseph and Grace (Raffaele) Casamento. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1953, then began working with NBT Bank as a bookkeeper. Prior to her retirement, Josephine moved up the ranks at NBT to become assistant vice president for deposit services. During her time in banking, she was a member of the National Association of Bank Women.

In her spare time, Josephine volunteered at Chenango Memorial Hospital and Our Daily Bread food bank. She was also an active member of the Church of St. Bartholomew, and once chaired the church’s Finance Committee.

Josephine is survived by her sisters, V. Jane Casamento, of Ghent, NY, Lucy (John) Messina, of Salisbury, NC, and Patricia (Thomas) Messina, of Ghent, NY; brother, Philippo Casamento, of Endicott, NY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Clara Martino.

A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021, at St. Bartholomew's Church, Norwich, at 1:30 p.m. A private burial will take place a St. Paul’s Cemetery on Thursday, May 28, 2020.
