Joan M. Brustowicz, 78, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Monday, May 30, 2016 at her residence.
Born May 9, 1938, in Auburn, NY, Joan was the daughter of John and Helen (Kilian) Fraczek. After graduating high school, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in teaching. Joan taught for many years as a word processing teacher in the Norwich Middle School before her retirement.
Joan very much enjoyed her regular dinner outings with her fellow Norwich teachers, and later enjoyed playing games on her iPad. She was also an avid reader. Joan kept a record of all the books she had read over the years, which grew in number to over 5,000.
Joan is survived by her children Celeste, of New Orleans, LA, Christopher John (C.J.), of Covington, LA, Mark and his wife, Michelle, of West Pearl, MS, and Greg, of Norwich; daughter-in-law Stephanie; and grandchildren Dylan, Claire, Taylor, Lucius, and Cyrus. She is also survived by brothers John and Richard, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her son, Stefan, and her sister, Barbara Goodenbury.
A memorial service for Joan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Wilson Funeral Home where the Rev. David Spiegel, pastor, First Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
