Jean C. Ryan

March 1, 1928 — May 12, 2022

Jean C. Ryan, 94, of Oxford, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, in Norwich.

Born on March 1, 1928, in McDonough, NY, Jean was the daughter of Louis and Maude (Beckwith) Purdy. When she was 13 years old, her family relocated to the Trenton, NJ area. As a young woman, she was married to Samuel Dominski and had three beautiful daughters. After starting her family, Jean worked tirelessly at General Motors Corporation for 30 years, running the parts line. She retired in 1980 and relocated back to the Oxford region. She earned her GED in Oxford after her return. In retirement, Jean volunteered at Chenango Memorial Hospital, was a member of the United Auto Workers, was a life member of both the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, volunteered for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and at the Episcopal Church Food Bank, and helped at the gift shop located at the NYS Veterans’ Home, in Oxford. Jean’s favorite hobby was gambling. She loved to play the slot machines at Turning Stone, Vernon and Tioga Downs, and at casinos in Atlantic City, NJ, particularly Oceans. Jean’s top priority was her family. She enjoyed gathering with loved ones, having fun, laughing, and dancing; always the life of the party! Jean was an avid reader and an amazing cook. She took great pride in her home, which was filled with love, numerous pictures representing fond memories and events, and special keepsakes, such as her extensive Lenox bird figurine collection.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Patricia Hraber, of Penfield, NY, and Deborah Wright, of Mount Laurel, NJ; son-in-law, George Wiley, of Oxford, NY; grandchildren, David Hraber, Zachary (Lauren) Hraber, Amy Figueroa, Emma (Angel) Leyba Soriano, Jessica (Ryan) Stark, Allison Wiley Bryant (Eddie Cole), Tom (Tiffany) Wright, and Matt (Megan) Wright; great-grandchildren, Roberto, Grace, Victoria, Maddy, Jax, Mya, George, Brody, Mason, Avery, Grady, Finnegan, Madison Jean; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Bill Ryan, her daughter, Linda Jean Wiley, and her siblings, Richard Purdy, Junior Purdy, and Ella McMullen.

Our family would like to give special thanks to Jean’s neighbors, Tina and Allan Kenyon, who assisted her at any time of the day or night. We will be forever grateful for your kindness.
