Jannette F. Diefenbacher, 88, of Norwich, went to be with her Lord on November 11, 2019 at Chenango Memorial Hospital Senior Living Center.
Born in Norwich on January 21, 1931, Jannette was the daughter of Grover and Edna (McNitt) Currie. She attended school in Norwich and began her career at the former Norwich Knitting Mill. She worked for seven years at the Norwich Shoe Company and then made her way to Procter & Gamble for 32 years, retiring in 1992. She also worked for a time as a greeter at Wal-Mart.
She was a member of the Norwich Assembly of God. Jannette was also a past president of both the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the County Council. She was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Jannette enjoyed sewing clothes, flower gardening, and jigsaw puzzles.
In 1948, in Norwich, Jannette married her ex-husband, Charles Diefenbacher. They raised two sons, Ronald (Kathy) Diefenbacher, of Wilmington, NC, and Kevin (Bonnie) Diefenbacher, of Norwich, each of whom survives. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Eric Diefenbacher and Jennifer Saeed, of Norwich, Christine Cook, Terra Donnely, and Leighann Diefenbacher, of Wilmington; 13 great-grandchildren, Aidan and Nora Diefenbacher, Brian and Shelby Hartwell, Brittany Lousier, Dakota Cronin, Megan and Tristan Cook, Brycen and Kyleigh Donnely, and Emma, Madison, and Cataleah Verleni; one sister, Eleanor Champlin, of Norwich; and a brother, Fred Currie, of Norwich, NY. She was preceded in death by four sisters, her twin, Julia Myers, Betty Stevens, Mary Jane Price, and Hazel Hastings, as well as a brother, Frank Currie.
A memorial service for Jannette will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at the Norwich Assembly of God where the Rev. David Campbell Jr. will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of Chenango County Hospice and at Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Senior Living Center for all the special care given to Jannette during the time she was under their care. Contributions in Jannette’s memory may be made to the Chenango County Hospice, the Chenango Memorial Hospital Building Fund, or the Norwich Assembly of God.
