James R. Walters, 83, formerly of Blue Mound, IL, and more recently of Oxford, NY, died on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Born on May 25, 1941, in Decatur, IL, James is a son of the late Leroy and Clara “Dorothy/Dot” (Morse) Walters. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Germany from 1960-1963. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for CSX Transportation as a switchman on the railroad. In 2021, he moved to Oxford, NY to be closer to his family.
James watched the stock market, was an avid reader (including reading the dictionary, twice!), enjoyed hunting with his brothers, and liked fishing.
James is survived by his three daughters, Janet (Gary) Whitehill, of Oxford, NY, RaChelle (Larry) Townley, of Edgar Springs, MO and LeeAnn Walters, of Warrensburg, IL; grandchildren, David Canaday, Curtis Whitehill (Maryjane Butler), Kelli (Keith) Finch, Gabrielle (Jeff) Barnes, Taylor Walters-McCoy and Cassidy Walters (Adam Moore); great-grandchildren, Cooper Canaday, Case Whitehill, Cash Whitehill, Kenzie Finch, Kolton Finch, Layla Murphy and Max Barnes; sister, Pat Oldfield; and brother, Joe Walters. He was predeceased by his siblings, Betty Hutson, Arthur “Bub” Walters and Bill Walters.
James will be buried in Decatur, IL, at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
