Harold S. Palmer, 88, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2015 with family by his side.
Harold was born on November 17, 1926, in Manhattan and grew up in Queens, the son to Soloman and Elizabeth (Margosian) Palmer. He later moved to Gilbertsville, NY, where he lived for 43 years before moving again to Norwich.
Harold enlisted in the Army-Air Corps during both World War II and the Korean War and was stationed on Long Island. After his time of service he relocated to upstate New York and became employed at the Bendix Corporation in Sidney, NY. He was a Drafting Engineer for over 30 years until his retirement. He then went to work for Hercules in Norwich until his retirement for a second time.
Always willing to lend a hand to help others he volunteered for the New York State Historical Association, in Cooperstown, NY. Harold was also very proud that he had volunteered at Chenango Memorial Hospital installing lifelines for his community. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich, NY. Harold was a kind gentleman who enjoyed listening to music, cooking, and dancing.
He will be missed by his beloved Nancy Karaman. His children: John Palmer (Deb), Jefferson, NY; Dianne Bennett, Oneonta, NY; Joni Pinney, Apex, NC; Terri Winter, Cooperstown, NY. His grandchildren: Jennifer Winter, Frederick, MD; Joshua Palmer (Kristina), Unadilla,NY; Jaison Pinney, Apex, NC.; Great Grandchildren Jana, Justice and Kaydence Palmer. Michael Karaman, St, Paul, MN; Thomas Karaman, Hubbardsville, NY; Peter Karaman (Sandi) Sherburne, NY. Grandchildren: Jennifer Karaman of St Paul, MN; Bethany Karaman, Emily Crockitt (Davie), Sarah Karaman, David Karaman of Hubbardsville; Emma Karaman, Molly Karaman, Thaddeus Karaman, and Rebecca Karaman of Sherburne, NY.
The family of Harold wishes to express their gratitude to the ICU staff at Chenango Memorial Hospital for the exceptional care given to him during his stay.
A memorial service for Harold will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2015, where the Very Rev. Father Chuck Taylor, pastor, will officiate. Friends may call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
