Frank Garcia

December 23, 1958 — September 1, 2020

Frank Garcia, Jr., 61, of Norwich, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY, after a short, but courageous battle against cancer.

Born on December 23, 1958, in Yonkers, NY, Frank was the son of the late Phyllis (Matos) and Frank Garcia, Sr,. He was a graduate of Yonkers High School before he enlisted in the United States Army in 1977 in the 2nd Brigade called “The Saints.” Following his honorable discharge in 1979, Frank became a car mechanic in the Westchester, NY area. Later in life, he became a locksmith in Manhattan in the 1990s and continued this career when he relocated to Norwich in 1994. Frank was the owner of A-Eagle Locksmith and also a landlord to several properties over the years. He was very interested in anything with a motor and was a big believer in “doing-it-yourself.”

Frank was a huge sports enthusiast, especially for basketball, football, soccer, and wrestling. Franks “second home” was the Norwich Family YMCA, where he met many dear friends. A regular at the YMCA, he could be found playing pickleball, working out in the gym, or just hanging out with all his friends. He was a member of the South New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, the VFW Post 2782 in Norwich, and the American Legion Post 189 in Norwich where he was a Legion Rider. Frank loved his family and greatly enjoyed having bon fires with them. He also enjoyed fast sport cars, anything competitive, hunting, and ocean fishing.

Frank is survived to the love of his life for 34 years, Julie Csukardi, of Norwich; his children, Anthony Garcia, Donny Garcia, Frank Garcia, and Deanna Garcia, all of Norwich; and his sisters, Frances Garcia and Kathy Garcia. He was predeceased by his brother, Bobby Garcia.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Frank will be celebrated at the Church of St. Bartholomew, where Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Due the current restrictions, those interested in attending the Mass for Frank are required to per-register at (607) 336-3993.
