Frances M. Nesbitt, 84, a native of Norwich, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Residential Health Care Facility.
Born on December 4, 1934, Frances was the daughter of James and Katherine (Sidote) Caruana. Following her graduation from Oxford Academy in 1955, she began working at the Norwich Knitting Mill and then the Norwich Pharmacal Company. She was later employed by Crescent Corsets in Oxford before her retirement.
Frances had a fondness for the outdoors and spent a great amount of time tending to her flower gardens. She resided in the Maple Grove trailer park for 30 years and, in later years, made Golden Age Apartments her new home where she made many friends. Frances also enjoyed traveling. She travelled to Texas to see her siblings on several occasions, and took trips to Virginia to visit her son. Many in Frances’ family have pot holders that Frances knitted over the years, and she loved her pets.
On February 14, 1957, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, in Norwich, Frances married Walter Nesbitt, who predeceased her in 1997.
Frances is survived by her two sons, John Nesbitt, and his wife, Pam, of Plymouth, and James Nesbitt, of New York City; two grandchildren, Collin and Shawn Nesbitt; three great-grandchildren, Sasha, Collin Jr., and Jameson Nesbitt; siblings, Louis and Joey Caruana; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Manley.
A funeral service for Frances will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Wilson Funeral Home, where Rev. Brad Keator, of the Chenango Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
