Floyd W. Rivenburg, 92, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center with family by his side.
Born July 22, 1923, in Orson, PA, Floyd was the son of Charles A. and Delcie Ann (Avery) Rivenburg. He left school at an early age to help support his family. Later, he served in World War II in the European theater, including tours in Germany and France. He was honorably discharged in 1946, and returned home to his young family.
On July 22, 1944, in Warren, Wyoming, Floyd married Jean L. Robb, who died on November 8, 2009. He is survived by his children Larry Rivenburg and his wife, Bonnie, of Norwich, Cheryl Bauder and her husband, Arthur, of Florida, and Pat Rivenburg, of Norwich; grandchildren Joe Rivenburg and his wife, Amber, of Norwich, Kelly Lewis and her husband, Jason, of Payallup, WA, Tara Wright and her husband, Billy, of Las Vegas, NV, Kim Hamilton and her husband, Mike, of Norwich, Dawn Thomas, of Norwich, Amy Ridgeway of Oneonta, and Todd Park and his wife, Colleen, of North Norwich; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
While he was able, Floyd was very fond of spending time in the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He and Jean also enjoyed travelling in their auto and stopping in to various restaurants along their travels. After Jean died, Floyd’s son, Pat, would take Floyd on similar journeys. At a young age, Floyd also took pleasure in building model ships, many of which can still be found in his home.
A private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Contributions in Floyd’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choosing.
