Evelyn M. Seymour, 91, of Norwich, passed away after a brief illness on January 24, 2021 at the Norwich Rehabilition and Nursing Center.
Born on February 13, 1929, in Peekskill, NY, Evelyn was the daughter of Wallace and Gertrude Gaudinier. She earned a GED degree and then a beautician’s school certificate from Alfred State. Evelyn worked as a beautician for many years at Joy’s Beauty Room, in Norwich. On November 15, 1958, in Pleasant Valley, NY, Evelyn married Samuel Seymour, who died at 100 years old on September 12, 2019. Together they would have and raise three children.
Evelyn enjoyed crocheting and knitting sweaters for family and friends. She could also be found playing bingo at the American Legion Post 189. Evelyn would travel all over the U.S. with her family in their truck and camper, including trips to Alaska and Mexico, but most often to Florida and the Gulf coast of Texas. Most of all, Evelyn was a homemaker at heart, and adored caring for her family. She was an outstanding cook.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Sandra Patterson, of Norwich, Kurt Seymour, and Dan (Gail) Seymour, each of New Berlin; grandchildren Darren, Jason, Rachael, Sheri, Jennifer, Nicole, Eric, Jessica, Joshua, and Erin; great-grandchildren, Jon, Alicia, Phil, Kaleb, Jay, Danielle, Lexi, Shannon, Matthew, Gregory, Jenny, Sarah, Leah, Lilly. Vincent, Oliver, and Preston; and great-great-grandchildren, Blake, Weston, Alexandria, Julianna, and Yuriy; and sister, Joanne. In addition to her husband, Evelyn was predeceased by her siblings, William Gaudinier, Wallace Gaudinier, Jr., and Gladys Broadie.
A graveside service for Evelyn will be held in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in Evelyn’s memory may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2782, 61-63 E. Main St., Norwich, NY 13815.
