Evelyn M. Griffin, 100, of Cortland Street, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center with her loved-ones by her side.
Born on September 14, 1919, in Roxbury, Evelyn was the daughter of Everett and Susan (Cantwell) Munsell. For many years, Evelyn worked as a lunch monitor for the Norwich City Schools. On August 14, 1943, in Roxbury, Evelyn married Sheldon J. Griffin. She was a devoted wife and mother, and adored her family. Evelyn was an avid reader, and enjoyed her walks around town, cross-stitching, and sewing. Evelyn was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Norwich.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Sheldon, daughter, Daphne Kaye, brother, Henry Munsell, daughter-in-law, Cheryl Griffin, and son-in-law, John Kaye. She is survived by her son, Paul Griffin, of Vernon, NJ; grandchildren, Lindsay Kaye Elliott, Sarah Griffin, Rebecca (Joseph)Rodriguez, David (Jodie) Griffin, and Amber (Clark) Cook; great-grandchildren, Mia and Alivia Rodriguez, Emmanuelle Griffin, Augustine Griffin, Evangeline Griffin, Collin Cook; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Gilbert “Gib” and Barbara Harrington.
Appreciation is expressed to all of Evelyn’s devoted caregivers, Marie, Joyce, Jessie, Trisha and Bailee that made it possible for her to stay in her home during her final years. Special thanks are also given to Chenango Memorial Hospital and the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the care they gave to Evelyn in 2020.
A funeral service for Evelyn will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020, at the Wilson Funeral Home, where David Griffin will officiate. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Upper Cemetery, in Roxbury. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
