Emilie K. Jenkins, 74, of Norwich, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Lourdes Hospital.
Born December 27, 1941, in Guilford, NY, Emilie was the daughter of Frank McMullen Sr. and Ogla E. (Flots) McMullen. She was one of nine children. On September 25, 1976, in Norwich, Emilie married James (“Jimmy”) Lee Jenkins, who died on April 8, 2003.
Emilie worked as a nursing aide in various local facilities, including the NY State Veterans Home in Oxford.
She was very devoted to her family, and was an extremely caring, kind, and loving soul to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by each of her survivors, who feel blessed to have had her in their lives. Emilie also adored her animals, enjoyed caring for her flower gardens, and helping at Carmen’s diner before its closing. She also enjoyed music and singing.
Emilie’s greatest passion was her faith and love of God. She was extremely active in her Agape Baptist Church. More recently, she was instrumental in beginning the Fellowship Community Church, which began in her own home and now holds services at the Grange Hall in Norwich.
Emilie is survived by the children she adored, David Roach Jr, and his wife Susan, of Norwich, Patrick Roach, and his wife, René, of Van Etten, NY, Terry Roach, and his fianceé, Phyllis Manwarren, of Plymouth, Laurie Franklin, and her husband, George, of Norwich, John D. Stevens, and his wife Penny, of Stafford, VA; grandchildren Desirae, Shawn, Karol, Jason, Patrick Jr., Heather, Kyle, Jonah, Nicole, Kristy, Terry Lee, Kevin, Brandon, Matthew, Sierra, Tristen, Aiden, Hunter, Spenser, and Mariah; 23 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Jeanette Stevens; sisters Denise, Brenda, Norma, and Darlene; and four stepchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Ardeen, and her brothers, Charles, Duane, and Frankie.
Her greatest loss was the death of her son, Scott Stevens, in 2012.
Funeral services for Emilie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the Wilson Funeral Home, where Rev. Harold Lefler, pastor, Fellowship Community Church, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will immediate follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton.
