Elsie Parsons

Elsie Parsons, 99, formerly of Wethersfield, CT, and more recently of Norwich, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Residential Health Care Facility in Norwich, NY.

Born August 2, 1917, in Chorley, Lancashire, England, Elsie was the daughter of Ellis and Bertha (Hatton) Carr. Elsie moved with her parents to the United States in 1923, and settled in Fall River, MA. She graduated from Bulkely High School, in Hartford, CT, then worked for a time for the Phoenix Fire Insurance Company, where Elsie worked with her future husband, Ellsworth “Bud” Parsons. Elsie and Bud were married in Rocky Hill, CT, on September 28, 1940, and spent 66 wonderful years together before Bud’s death in 2006. Elise left her place of work to raise her daughter.

Elsie was an active gardener and very proud of her home. She was a member of several gardening clubs throughout her life. She very much enjoyed playing “Bridge.” Elsie was also a crewel embroiderer, having produced numerous pieces, including those on vestments of her son-in-law, a minister.

Elsie is survived by her only child, Patricia Olson and her husband, Rev. Thomas Olson of Norwich. She is also survived by grandchildren Eric Olson and his wife, Catherine Nichols, of Rockville, MD, and Kimberly Trotter and her husband, Lanny, of Port Crane, NY; great-grandchildren Rhys and Nicholas Olson; and Elsie’s very good friends, Alice Gilrain and Ruth Ann Schumaker. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her husband, Elsie was predeceased by her sister, Eva Hall.

Funeral services for Elise will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30. 2016, at the Rose Hill Funeral Home in Rocky Hill, CT. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
