Edward J. “Ed” Lawton, 72, passed away suddenly on the morning of Thursday, October 26, 2023.
Born on April 17, 1951, in Greene, NY, Ed was the son of Paul “Johnny” and Barbara “Bobbie” (Southworth) Lawton. He was raised in Oxford, NY and after graduating, he continued his education at SUNY Potsdam and received his master’s in mathematics from Suny Binghamton.
Ed spent twenty years of his career working for Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals in their IT Department and later formed his own firm, EJL Consulting.
Ed married Barbara Doyle on July 29, 1972, at the Church of St. Bartholomew in Norwich.
Ed was highly active in his local and county Grange for over fifty years. He enjoyed bowling with local leagues and square dancing with his wife and friends in the Broken Squares and Ken’s Twirly Vines square dance clubs. He was an avid Yankees fan and a devoted reader, most of which were westerns, including his favorite author, Louis L'Amour. Spending time with family and friends was the most important to him.
Ed was predeceased by his father Paul “Johnny” Lawton on August 8, 2007.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Lawton; sons, Keith (Lisa) Lawton and Kevin Lawton; mother, Barbara “Bobbie” Lawton; brother, Rev. Thomas (Susan) Lawton; brother-in-law, John (Marsha) Doyle; multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved deeply.
Always a cowboy at heart, Ed was seldom seen without his Cowboy hat and boots. He loved deeply and gave freely. He was equally loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
