Doris B. Manley, 84, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2017 after a brief illness at Chenango Memorial Hospital and with family by her side.
Born on November 28, 1932, in Gilbertsville, NY, Doris was the daughter John G. and Alice M. (Day) Birdsall. She was one of ten children. After graduating Gilbertsville High School in 1950, Doris completed college coursework at Morrisville Community College. For many years thereafter, Doris worked at Procter & Gamble in the data control department. She retired in 1993.
She married Guy T. Post, with whom she had five children, each of whom she dearly cherished. Guy preceded Doris in death in August 22, 2012.
In 1986, Doris married Russell W. Manley, and with Russell moved in 1993 to Murray, Kentucky. Together they would spend the next ten years in Kentucky. Russell died in 2003, and Doris returned to live in Norwich that same year.
Doris was a very devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was very fond of visiting family and friends throughout the country whenever possible.
Doris also loved to knit. Whether by request or not, she would knit blankets, hats, and gloves for the many members of her family. She was also known to have knitted such items for soldiers during WWII. Doris also read volumes of books during her lifetime. She was an amazing trombone and piano player.
Doris is survived by her loving children, Priscilla (Robert) Wagner of Ohio, John (Debra) Post of Norwich, Nancy (Daniel) Roy of California, Jennifer Post of Norwich, and Dale (Dawn) Post of East Syracuse. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother John (Janet) Birdsall, Jr. of Gilberstville.
In addition to her first and second husbands, Doris was predeceased by her other siblings, and her great-granddaughter, Kaylyn Daumeyer.
To honor Doris’ wishes, there was no funeral service or calling hours. A private committal took place at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
