David C. Corey

David C. Corey, 65, of Sherburne, passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

David was born in Norwich on January 27, 1958 to James H. Corey, Jr, who predeceased him on April 15, 1988, and Catherine (Hughes) Corey, who predeceased him on January 29, 2022. He was one of eight children. He was predeceased by his sister, Susan Dubois and his brother, Robert Corey. He was a graduate of Norwich High School. David married Kay L. Smith, of Guilford, on July 10, 1993. Together, they have five fur babies, Goldie (predeceased), Cocoa (predeceased), Dazer, Molly, and Rosie.

During David’s working career he worked for a landscaping business, The Evening Sun and Pennysaver, Kenyon Press, and a cleaner at Dielectric Laboratories. David enjoyed adventures to Hawaii, Canada, Virginia, Florida, and the Thousand Islands. He enjoyed watching older cartoons, drag racing, wrestling, NASCAR racing, demolition derbies, tractor pulls, speed boat racing, rodeos, and the Three Stooges.

David is survived by his wife, Kay; three fur children, Dazer, Molly, and Rosie; three brothers, James Corey, III (Carol), of Norwich, Michael Corey (Diana), of Calabash, NC, and Richard Corey, of Norwich; two sisters, Catherine Hood of Allenhurst, GA and Barbara Corey-Edick, of Sherburne; father-in-law, Clyde Smith (Martha), of Guilford; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for David will take place on July 10, 2024 in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich at the convenience of the family. Contributions in David’s memory may be made to the Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 179 N. Broad St., Norwich, NY 13815.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
