Constance A. “Connie” McGee, formerly of Georgetown and more recently of Norwich, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. She was 75 years old.
Born August 31, 1941, in Norwich, Connie was the daughter of Frank R. and Grace (Benson) Gustafson. Her mother, Grace, survives her.
After graduating high school, Connie earned a secretarial certification. She worked for many years at the New York Central Mutual Insurance Company’s headquarters, located in Edmeston. Connie worked there until very recently. She adored her co-workers.
In 1991, she moved to Georgetown, NY, where on her beautiful 15-acre parcel of land she enjoyed the company of her horses, dogs, and cats. Connie lived at her Georgetown residence for 15 years before moving back to Norwich to live with and care for her mother.
Connie was also very active outside of work and her Georgetown home. She was a skilled scuba-diver, and at one time in her life explored underwater wreckages. Connie lived overseas, in Kwajalein, from 1977 - 1984. After returning to the US, she continued to enjoy traveling. She enjoyed visiting her daughter’s home in Texas, and traveled to New Orleans, Canada, and other places of interest.
Connie liked bicycling, and playing cards with family and friends. She was particularly fond of playing “pitch” at the American Legion. Connie also enjoyed visiting Turning Stone and the horse races in Saratoga Springs, and collecting antiques.
In addition to her mother, Connie is survived by her children Jennifer (Joel) Reyes, of College Station, TX, John D. McGee, of Norwich, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her brothers Carl and Richard.
Funeral services for Connie will held at the Wilson Funeral Home, Norwich, NY, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service on Friday at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
