Christine Gibson

March 24, 1930 — March 30, 2014

Christine Z. Gibson, 84, of Fayetteville, NY, passed away on March 30, 2014. She grew up in Philadelphia and married Edwin F. Gibson in 1953.

Christine was a Girl Scout and following her graduation from Cedar Crest College, she moved to Watertown, NY, where she was a Field Director for the Jefferson County Girl Scout Council.

Her family spent their summers at Chenango Lake in Norwich, NY, where she enjoyed swimming, boating, hiking and wild flowers. Christine was interested in the history of Chenango Lake and authored two books about the lake that were published by the Chenango County Historical Society.

Christine was a long time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville where she particularly enjoyed serving as a church school teacher. She previously resided in East Aurora, NY, for fifteen years where she was active in the League of Women Voters and worked as a pre-school teacher. She also served as a docent at the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. She loved cross-country skiing and walking at Green Lakes.

Christine is survived by her husband of sixty years, Edwin F. Gibson; her children, Edwin and Helen Gibson of Amherst, NY, and Elizabeth Gibson and Neil Goldstein of Belmont, MA; her grandchildren, Joseph Gibson, Charity Gibson Jalbert, Anna Goldstein Moyer, Lily Goldstein and Isabelle Goldstein.

A memorial service for Christine will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville.

Christine expressed her viewpoint that memorial gifts are unnecessary.
