Betty Shorter

Betty A. Shorter, 84, of Norwich, passed away peacefully at the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 14, 2015.


Born December 19, 1930, in Norwich, Betty was the daughter of Bernard and Florence (Brown) Albert. Following graduation from Norwich High School, she earned her registered nursing degree in New York City where she met her husband, Charles. They relocated to Syracuse, then to Norwich in the 1950’s where Charles became a prominent local attorney at the Brown Law Offices.


Betty was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and of the Norwich Garden Club. She took dance lessons at the Bernie Windsor Dance Center and belly dancing with Spring Graham.


On September 4, 1954, in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Betty married Charles W. Shorter III. Charles died in 2002. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kimberly and Tim Annesi, of Norwich, and Terry and Ken Dickie, of Swansboro, NC; a granddaughter, Kelly Dickie, of Swansboro, and a brother-in-law, John Shorter and his wife, Barbara, of Long Island. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice Newcomb and Rita Balmer.


Funeral services for Betty will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Taylor, pastor, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
