Betty R. Crandall, 90, a Norwich native, but more recently of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away after a brief illness.
Born on May 29, 1930, in Norwich, Betty was the daughter of Howard and Jennie (Lindsey) Rounds. She graduated with the Norwich High School Class of 1948, then worked for the Chenango Savings & Loan Association as a bookkeeper. She also worked at NBT Bank in the accounting department, then Giltner’s Paint for more than a decade as their bookkeeper, and finally for the accountant Max Bach as a paraprofessional. Betty retired in 1989. After her retirement, she worked with her husband in their accounting firm, Crandall’s Accounting. She lived in Norwich her entire life until relocating in 2017 to be nearer to her son in Fort Wayne, IN.
On November 1, 1952, at the Broad Street United Methodist Church, Betty married Duward H. “Duke” Crandall, who passed away on April 8, 2007. Together, Betty and Duke would spend 54 wonderful years together, and would have and raise two sons.
Betty was also an active member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church. For several years, she served as the church’s financial secretary. Betty also sang in the church choir, served on its administrative board, and taught Sunday school. Betty also served for many years as a local girl scout leader. She also volunteered at the Chenango Memorial Hospital, was a member of the CMH Auxiliary, and a member of the Canasawacta Country Club.
Betty is survived by her son, William G. Crandall and his wife, Margaret, of Fort Wayne, IN, and her daughter-in-law, Karen Bashe Crandall of Abington, MA; grandchildren, Kelly Crandall Orr (Benjamin), of Fishers, IN, Katie Crandall Watson (Richard), of Greenwood, IN, Elizabeth Crandall Miller (Christopher), of Tilton, NH, Christina Crandall, of Abington, MA; great-grandchildren, Allison Orr and Tyler Orr of Fishers, IN, Amelia Watson of Greenwood, IN and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Betty was predeceased by her son, Geoffrey S. Crandall, her brothers, Howard Rounds and Gerald Rounds, and her sister, Gladys Walker.
A graveside service for Betty will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, where the Rev. Rachel Dupont, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will immediately follow. There will be no calling hours.
