Betty Ann Palmer, of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, May 4, 2018. She was 78 years old.
Born on November 17, 1939, in North Pharsalia, Betty was the daughter of Harry L. and Alice W. (Bauder) Smith, and was the third of their six children. At a young age, she helped her family on their farm. She attended South Otselic Schools, but left school prior to graduating to work full-time. She began at W.T. Grant’s, which is where she met her beloved husband, Ronald, who survives. Betty and Ron married in Norwich on May 16, 1958, and she passed just days before their 60th anniversary.
She also worked for a time at GLA until she relocated with her family to the Syracuse area where Ron found work in advertising. They lived in Manlius where Betty worked at a local Agway, and then in a small insurance agency. Eleven years later, they would return to Norwich where Betty began work in dentistry. She would eventually end up working for Bassin & Hession Orthodontic, in Norwich, for 15 years as its office administrator until her retirement. In 1979, Betty and Ron purchased land in Plymouth where they would build a home. They constructed their home in 1988, where Betty would spend the rest of life tending to her flowers and gardens. As a “farm girl” by nature, she loved spending time outdoors, and her family would travel to South Otselic for blueberry picking every year. In 1961, Betty gave birth to her only child, Lincoln, who survives. She took great pride in raising Lincoln and was a fantastic mother. Betty also adored Lincoln’s finance, Susan Predmore, who shares the same birthday as Betty.
Betty was beautiful inside and out, and everybody enjoyed her presence.
In addition to her husband and son, Betty is also survived by her siblings Melva (Robert) Bolduc, of FL, Sylva (Eugene) Rainbow, of Plymouth, Jim (Bev) Smith, of Smyrna, and Melody(Gary) Giles, of London, England; sister-in-law Jean Smith; and grandchildren Meghan, Jillian, Jacob, and Jenna. She was predeceased by her brother, Reland Smith.
A gathering to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at a later date and at the convenience of the family. A notice of any such celebration will be published prior to it taking place. Contributions in Betty’s memory made be made to the Chenango SPCA, 6160 County Rd 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
