Barbara A. Turner, 78, formerly of Baltimore, MD, and more recently of Norwich, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Crystal, with her loving family by her side.
Born March 9, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY, Barbara was the daughter of James Henry and Lavinia (Edmonds) Turner. After graduating high school, Barbara earned a nursing degree, then worked at several medical institutions in and around Baltimore, MD, as an EKG technician, phlebotomist, and private duty nurse until her retirement.
Barbara was a devout Jehovah’s Witness for over 46 years. She enjoyed preaching about Jehovah’s promise of everlasting life. In her free time, Barbara was an amazing cook who passed on her skills to her children. She was very independent and had a strong constitution about the love of her family. Barbara loved to be out and about shopping, at garage sales, listening to music, talking to friends, being around family, and traveling.
Barbara is survived by children Crystal Johnson and her husband, Norman Sr., Gregory Fuller, each of Norwich, Aletha Vasquez and her husband, Christopher, and Shelia (“Yvonne”) Ellington and her husband, Mark, each of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Tshombe Jones, Andrea Cole, Kareem Johnson, Nadia Trapp, Norman Johnson Jr., Christopher Johnson, Milira Johnson, Melody (Ford) Girgenti, Demond Jackson, Tiffany Hayes, Velma White, Umeka Jones, Sherry (Trevil) Jones, Lashonda Jones, Gary Jones, Wendy Jones, Sofia Jones, Patrick Fuller, Faith Fuller, Dayana (“Marble-eyes”) Ckyyou, Aliya Fuller, Dennis Vasquez, Damien Vasquez, Tory Vasquez, Raven Ellington, Rachel Ellington, and Rena Ellington. She is also survived by 46 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by children Carolyn Buxton, Marvin Francis Jones, Darryl Jones, Raymond Jones, Anthony Jones, and a twin-infant son. She was also preceded in death by siblings James Turner, Robert (“Bobby”) Turner, Alma Turner, Ida Hargrave, and Laura Sullivan; grandson Corey Jones; and great-granddaughter Krissy Crandall
Barbara will be greatly missed by her family and spiritual Brothers and Sisters of Jehovah’s Congregation Rev. 21:3-4.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the Kindom Hall, 5250 State Highway 12, Norwich. There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
