Barbara Ellen Lacy Fendsack, 79, of Norwich, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Barbara was born on July 3, 1945, in Massena, NY, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Marjorie (Clarkson) Lacy. She moved to Norwich as a youth and graduated from Norwich High School in 1963. She then attended the Syracuse Nursing School and the Rochester Business School. Barbara then came back to Norwich and worked for the Norwich Pharmacal Company. After the birth of her daughter, she became a full-time caregiver for her growing family. Barbara loved volunteering in the school and the community. She was actively involved in all of her children’s school activities. After her children were grown, she served on the board and helped to form what is today Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County which allowed those with a terminal illness to stay in the comfort of their home. She was actively involved in all of her children’s school activities. She became the Volunteer and Bereavement Coordinator for Hospice. Other than Barbara’s love for her children, Hospice was her true passion.
Barbara was an avid hockey fan and was especially fond of her favorite player, Sidney Crosby, of the Pittsburgh Penguins. She loved giraffes and taking trips to Animal Adventure, enjoyed music and looked forward to every family gathering. Her grandchildren and great granddaughter meant the world to her.
Barbara is survived by her children, Kelli (Philip) Curley, of Norwich, BJ Fendsack (Sarah Amante), of Barneveld, NY, and Brian Fendsack, of Troy, NY; grandchildren; Brianna Curley, Kaitlyn Winton, Shannon (Dooger) Wenzel, Brandon (fiance Cassie Shepard) Winton, Layla Curley, Izzy Curley, Destiny Jackson, Michael Fendsack, Trinity Fendsack, Ryan Fendsack, Ava Amante, Maddie Amante, and Cassie Amante; great granddaughter, Paizlee White; siblings, James Lacy and Judith (Bruce) Baker; nieces and nephews, James Lacy, Holly Spagnolo, Katherine Skafidas, Leigh Kossick, and Lauren “Jill” Vogel; dear friends, Ruth Ann Ogden and Brenda Matthews; and her granddogs, Leah and Shelby. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Jeannine Lacy.
The family would like to thank the staff of Chenango Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care they gave to Barbara and her family during the last few days.
Memory sharing and songs for Barbara will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home, 68 South Broad Street, Norwich, NY, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Friends are invited to the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
