Barbara Ann McElroy, 88, of Mt. Upton, NY, died peacefully at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Barbara Ann was born on May 22, 1936, in Jersey City, NJ, a daughter of Thomas and Helen (Papin) McElroy. She grew up in New Jersey and attended Catholic School. After the death of both of her parents, Barbara Ann moved to Binghamton to live with her dear cousin “Dr. Peggy” as she affectionally called her. Barbara Ann has spent about ten years in Mt. Upton. She was a diva until the end of her life and loved wearing leopard prints, jewelry, sunglasses, and hats. She always had her nails painted and was rarely seen without her famous red lipstick. Barbara Ann attended Crouse Community Center in Sherburne for many years where she made many friends. She prayed the Rosary daily, enjoyed genealogy, coloring in animal books, and had a sweet tooth for hot fudge sundaes.
Barbara Ann is survived by her caregivers, Nancy, Bill, and Alex Joslyn, of Mt. Upton, a close friend, Ernie; and many cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her cousins, Margaret (Dr Peggy), Agnes, and Theresa; her brother, Thomas McElroy and her beloved dog, Bobo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Church, 30 Pleasant Street, Norwich at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024. Burial will occur in Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Upton, NY.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to John Antonowicz of the Wilson Funeral Home.
