Anthony Caezza

August 9, 1929 — September 30, 2015

Anthony “Tony” Caezza, 86, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at his home.

Born in Norwich on August 9, 1929, Tony was the son of George B. and Catherine M. (Natoli) Caezza. He graduated from St. Paul’s School, where he was in charge of the crossing guards and Norwich High School in 1948 before attending St. Bonaventure University and eventually receiving his Associates Degree from Mohawk Valley College in 1951. Tony served during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 – 1954. He then worked in the control lab of Norwich Pharmaceuticals and for the Norwich Shoe Company in their personnel office and as purchasing manager before joining Almy Brothers as a sales representative.

Tony was an active member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, having served as an altar boy, president of the former Holy Name Society, volunteer at the spaghetti supper for 40 years, lieutenant of the Civil Defense shelter, chairman of bingo and the church’s feast day, 40 years as an usher, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a 20 year member of the choir and a member of the St. Paul’s Cemetery Board.

Tony was also dedicated to the Norwich Community, serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals, BID, the Norwich Housing Authority and the Water Board. He was active in theater, too, having parts with Bella Conto, the Chenango Community Players and Chenango Chenanigans.

Tony loved to play golf or watch any sport, either live or on television. He was probably the biggest N.Y. Yankee fan in Norwich.

On June 22, 1958, in St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich, NY, Tony married Frances Corcoran. Frances died in 1999. He will be greatly missed by his children and their spouses, Margaret Caezza (Paul Hulse), of New Berlin, Mary and Gregory Fedor, of New Hartford, Anne Marie and Steve Marks, of Norwich, Patricia and Franco Barsanti, of Warren, NJ, Elizabeth Caezza, of Norwich, George and Tracy Caezza, of Binghamton, Michael and Colleen Caezza, of Huntersville, NC and Matthew Caezza, of Norwich. 14 grandchildren also survive. Additionally, Tony is survived by his sisters, Mary Stack and Catherine Rowe. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Caezza, his sisters, Frances T. Caezza and Ann Bohonicky and his brother, George Caezza.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Tony will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at St. Bartholomew’s Church with Father Ralph Bove, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, October 2nd from 4-7 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30.
