Anna Messina

January 4, 1923 — April 2, 2020

Anna Messina, 97, formerly of Norwich and Syracuse, but more recently of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away at the Grand Residence in Upper St. Clair Township, PA.

Born on January 4, 1923, in Norwich, Anna was the daughter of John and Catherine (Biviano) Messina. After graduating from Norwich High School, Class of 1941, Anna attended Syracuse Memorial School of Nursing earning her nursing degree in 1944. For the next ten years, Anna worked at Syracuse Memorial in its operating room as head nurse. For the next 33 years she worked at American Red Cross, retiring in 1988. During retirement, she was active in AARP, donating hand-made lap robes to nursing homes.

Anna enjoyed the company of people of all different ages. She traveled the world, was an avid reader, knitter, theater goer and always had a crossword puzzle nearby. Anna enjoyed life and was grateful to have lived a long life surrounded by a lot of love.

Anna, is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, George Messina, and her sisters, Nancy Marchetti and Mary Sparace.

A private graveside service and interment will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery. A memorial Mass for Anna will be celebrated at a later time. Contributions in Anna’s memory can be made to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.
