Alice Ellinwood

Alice Rowley Ellinwood, 89, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2014 in Safety Harbor, FL surrounded by her family.

Alice, the second of Joseph and Alice Rowley’s five children, was born on January 9th, 1925 in Utica, NY. After graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in Utica and Rhode Island College of Pharmacy in Providence, RI, she moved to Norwich to begin her career with the Norwich Pharmacal Company. While there, she met Richard Ellinwood, whom she married on October 16, 1948.

Alice was a devoted wife and mother who gave generously of her time to serve her church and community. In addition to her duties as mother to three children, Alice was an active member/volunteer of various community organizations including the St. Paul’s Mothers Club, Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She also operated a small business, Fairview Fabrics, for eight years.

Alice is survived by Richard Ellinwood, her husband of 65 years and her three children - Peggy Raynor (and her husband Robert Raynor) of Bonita Springs, FL; Charles Ellinwood (and his wife Rosemary Ellinwood) of Short Hills, NJ; and Susan McBride (and her husband Gregory McBride) of Oxford, NY. She is also survived by six grandchildren and great grandchildren – Christie Cohen (and her husband Sol Cohen) of Sudbury, MA; Maureen Ellinwood of London, England; Catherine Nettleton (and her husband Charles Nettleton) of New York, NY; Charles Ellinwood of Hoboken, NJ; and Myles and Asher Cohen of Sudbury, MA. In addition, she is survived by a brother, Dr. Joseph Rowley of Queensbury, NY and a sister, Isabel McDonough of Safety Harbor, FL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 18th at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will take place later that day in West Hill Cemetery in Sherburne. There will be no calling hours.
